The Drop Zone Tahiti - Surfing and Diving Cultures Converge in Paradise

The Drop Zone Tahiti is a different sort of film. It places some world class surfers in a place with superlative surf and diving too. Throw in some life style shots and there you are. Some talented videographers come along to document the action. I spoke to Francey Marzicola with Full Spectrum Marketing, Inc. and the Drop Zone: Dive-In Program Director about involving kiting in future projects. They are working on another project in Fiji for release in the coming year currently. The suggestion was passed along, sounds good to me.



Holly Beck dives into the break zone for a different perspective on things.

Pursuing surfing AND diving makes sense in a lot of venues. Sometimes there is little wind generated surf in many venues, what to do, organize your baggie drawer? Why not go diving in the calmer, clearer water.



When the wind comes up, possibly reducing diving conditions, why not throw in some surfing to keep mind and body in the water and happy? Some venues like Tahiti, other islands, even continental areas, allow both to occur at the same time.



Surfing is ablaze worldwide particularly with young riders. Diving demographics seem to be shifting upwards in age. This is a mystery to me, starting at 14 years old a long time ago. If you want to see the ocean and what water person wouldn't, you need the tools and training to do so, diving. Some may even want to work in ocean areas as I did and countless others. In this case that means SCUBA diving.



There is a world of things to see and do underwater, that hasn't changed. The mindset seems to have drifted however due to myriad reasons, it would be good for younger divers and the sport to discover what diving has to offer and get in to it. This film series represents a means of helping newer divers and experiences ones for that matter to see the sport in a deserved, good light worth pursuing for the first time or after years.

The keys to the program are recognizing the marketing void in specifically addressing the next generation and creating actionable tactics and events Dive Shop Owners can easily execute to connect with young consumers"

There is no sane reason for new generations to miss out on the underwater experience, none. Many of us out there who started back in the day underwent a life long sea change for the move. Make some links, open some eyes and spread the joy.

The project represents a collaboration between Transworld Surf, PADI, Body Glove and Sport Diver Magazine. Showing a large portion of the population an untapped aspect of a marvelous place right before them is a worthwhile project for all concerned. I think it is a good concept, keep it coming ... and think about throwing in some kiting!

There is a new video out on the street, "The Drop Zone Fiji." It continues concepts started last year with "The Drop Zone Tahiti." We all have a stake in this thing, watermen of tomorrow should be as well rounded and capable as their predecessors, us! Being able to hit the surf with a board and/or kite and through diving be it free diving or SCUBA with facility should be a common goal. Showing interest and understanding in the oceans from the top down is something we need to promote to up and comers for their benefit, that of their children and the health of the world ocean in general.
