Default Saint Simons Island Kiting?

Hello,
I will be flying with my family from SF Ca, to the SouthEast for a weeding in Mid May of this year. We will be staying in St. Simons Ga and I was wondering if it would be worth bringing along my kitesurfing gear. Any advice appreciated.
thanks

If you can fit your gear in you might want to do it. Mid May is a traditional time when winds start to shut off in the SE however some years continue past this point. You might talk to the Tybee Island Kiteboarding Association (Ga) for more info at:

You can find some historical wind records for May, offshore at Grays Reef on ikitesurf. I would take a few mph off the record to better represent nearshore conditions at:

I know this is an old thread but...

I'll be going there in Sept. Looks like the windiest month there. Did you get to check out the kiting on St. Simons?

I went there for a windsurfing event in 1995... i think. It was a great spot with wonderful people. The wind was excellent and it holds a great seabreeze similar to Savanah, Ga. I'm sure that most summer days have enough wind to kite. Septemeber is a month of change, but still should get hot enough to pull the wind through.

I remember that we actually raced around the island and had to duck under a bridge in the event. tons of fun.

Hey,

Saint Simons is a great place:

Also Jekyll Island is not very far away; however, if you are on Saint Simons or Sea Island kite there it is an awesome spot for a mud flat.
