Default kiteboarding in missouri???

yes, thats right, i said missouri!!! LOL A friend of mine just moved up there for some stupid reason, and has been trying to get me to come visit. It sounded ridiculous to me until i heard rumors about rideable lakes up there??? i can't seem to find out any info about a school or shop up there, ive only found some cheesy youtube videos of kooks riding in 12 knots doing deadmans with safety vests, helmets, and board leashes!!!! any help would be appreciated. Ill be competing in the gulf coast triathlon on may 8th in panama city, and was thinking about taking my kite gear in the truck with me and road tripping it from there for a week or so. thanks in advance!!

Chad

I have a hard hat, saftey vest, and board leash you can borrow.

There used to be a small group of kiteboarders in the St Louis area and they had a yahoo group I think - not sure whether anyone up there is still actively riding. Last I heard one of them got pretty seriously dragged and injured down around Dauphin Island and he hung it up.

I actually checked out two lakes "near" St Louis - Rend lake is south of I 64 in IL and it has a couple of reasonable kiteboarding spots, one on the East side and one on the West side of the lake.

When I looked at Lake Carlyle I didn't think much of the area I was at - near the Lake Carlyle Sailing Club; The lake shore is lined solid with really big rip-rap in that area and I just didn't want to deal with it.

Heard some talk of people riding up near Alton where there is a slough off the main river - looked to me like it could work in certain wind directions.

Don't know anything about western MO but would love to hear some more since I will be out near Sedalia for most of a week later in the May

Sounds like if you do find a scene up there, you could go pro!

I imagine its tough conditions all around, hence, the lack of scene.
