Default Wind Forecast

Just noticed the forecast for tomorrow off the SE Coast area.

MONDAY
NORTH WINDS 20 TO 25 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 KNOTS.
NEAR SHORE...SEAS 5 TO 7 FEET BUILDING TO 9 TO 11 FEET IN THE
AFTERNOON. IN THE GULF STREAM...SEAS 8 TO 10 FEET BUILDING TO
10 TO 12 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. NORTHEAST SWELL 3 TO 5 FEET.
INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

I don't have a kite small enough for gusts to 40 knots.

Just got back from Key West via highspeed ferry about an hour ago. We were delayed off the Biscayne Channel as a severe cold front squall band blew over.

The 150 ft. ferry was heeling substantially in sustained 40 kt. winds for about 20 minutes with heavy lightning. I learned onshore something about a boat capsizing in the area. Impressive stuff and the last thing I would like to have up in crap like that is a kite, again.

Have a care, heavy weather is inbound per the forecast.

I have a 9 m SB I. It is too big, if the winds gust from 20 to 40 kts.

It is pretty strong now but not all that gusty off Palm Beach County. A bit early around 6 am, it was 35 gusting to 41 kts. It seems to be easing down a bit currently but may pop back up.

I would think you folks should get something over in the Bahamas, if you are still over there?

I'm in ft. lauderdale right now, going to tiki beach around 930. I'm 115kg so i think i might be able to hold down a 9. but it does seem to be calming down a little bit. my buddy has a 9m but it's one of those *pump it up, get out on the water* come back in, pump it back up, go out again etc* i hope to see some guys out there..

thanks for the wind statistics though Rick.
safety first!!!!!!

The wind seems to be easing fairly rapidly. I stopped and did a wind check on the way to the office and it was averaging about 20 mph or less. Absent any squalls and sudden building of winds, it could be a nice day on the water despite last night's forcast.
