Default !!! Kiteleash causes fatality !!!

Take a look at Rick's post regarding a recent accident. Disregard the sh*t that disrespectful riders posted after (the rider was apparently very overweight and many poke fun at that instead of looking at the real point of Rick's post)

I have the exact same leash with the same clip. I clip to my CL so its not as much of a risk.. but it is a risk. I have had my clip undo and got clocked in the head with the swinging leash (thx i was wearing a helmet!).

I want to pick up a double clamp clip. Anyone know where these can be found???

I hate the way those guys respond to such a horrible thing. Such a negative reflection on our sport to those who lost a loved one as well as everyone else on the outside looking in. Each time I read one of these I feel like I lost another brother or sister whether I knew them or not...

Bryan, I have an extra QR bungee double clamp leash that you can have, come see me at the beach.

Offer stands Bryan. I have 3 and a surfire spreader bar with leash. 1 for Amber, 1 for my LF harness without the surfire, the surefire on my OR Session Harness and one extra...if it makes you feel any better, I'll sell it to you for $5.

Guys, you don't want to have one of these clips attached anywhere on your setup. The guy described at the link below had another type of soft connector attached to his leg strap, it destroyed his kite. If the winds hadn't been sideshore he would have been dragged up the beach instead of way downwind. Locking carabiners cost about $20.

Double clamps have been known to release kites on occasion even though there were closed.

I feel pretty safe with my clamping leash. My surefire is even better but the QR slips down a bit sometimes, lost my 25.5 M Machine at the Backside once and was VERY lucky to get it back without a scratch.

Carabiners don't have QR's on them, if you get stuck in a sticky situation it is always best to have both a CL QR and a leash QR just in case...I don't want to be 'locked in' to anything. I'd much rather have a trashed kite than a trashed face and as long as plenty of WD-40 is applied to the clamping leashes they should prove to be pretty reliable. The problems occur when you let the clamp rust and it sticks open or shut...

I agree, a quick release on the leash is also mandatory for exactly this reason.

It's not the first time someone has been dragged and killed by a leash attached to a kite which did not depower properly.
