If you want to time the arrival of useable wind more often and work to avoid the hazardous variety it is worth subscribing in areas where there are a lot of private or critically located private stations. Stations are not always accurate, however in some cases you can learn correction factors for given wind directions. Watching for wind spikes and trying to time frontal wind arrival from upweather it can be invaluable.
