Brian,

On the SE side of the island is Smathers Beach. Kiters ride all the way to the left or the east end of the beach by the first jetty. Greg or someone down there will give you the low down of the north side. Also check out Bahia Honda SP at mm33 or so. One of the best spots IMO to kite in the keys.

The best wind sensor to use is the NOAA buoy at sand key reef, but give me a call when you get down, and I will help out where possible.

Bryan,

Be sure to check rider resources for SE Florida, in this case there is a lot of info and images about the kitebeach in Key West, Smathers Beach. Anyone wanting to ride there should check this out:

Greg is a local expert and will take good care of you. Hey Greg for most winds, how much do you take off of the Sand Key wind reading to approximate winds shoreside, about 3 to 4 mph?

As a good average, you can look at around a 3 to 5 mph lesser wind speed off the beach, than at sand key, however, on SE winds when the weather channel gives a reading, you can almost always add 3 to 5 mph on to whatever they are displaying.

No good launches off the island on NE, we might go out and ride off of the Hyatt by old dead mans curve ,( about a mile East of Smathers), we will be launching off a boat, if conditions are good and you want to come out ,give us a call.
