Arrow UPDATE!!! Race Day at Crandon Beach Park changed to SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16th

“A Day at the Races!” moves to Sunday on an EPIC forecast! but wait, there's more..

Riders Andre Phillip, Damien Leroy, John Modica, and Kevin Steen will be on hand this weekend and because we're pretty sure DRE DON'T RACE, we have Garry "Special Ops" Menk welding a 36 foot rail in the ASM warehouse so that the boys can put on a show before and after the races.

We'll be bringing a section of the NPX kicker to the beach along with our "pro's only" rail (cheap translation: it is a t-bar construction and wicked as hell... can you say CONTUSION) so these props are only for very experienced riders that have already been pre-authorized to ride them (another cheap translation for you: if we haven't seen you riding rails in the mags, we won't be seeing you ride them Sunday at Crandon).

As stated below... this is a free event for racers, but normal restrictions apply for Crandon Park.

Crandon Beach Park, Miami
SUNDAY, November 16th

Presented by

Adventure Sports Miami & Miami Kiteboarding

Sponsored by

Dakine, NPX, Cabrinha Kiteboarding

When: SUNDAY, November 16th, 2008
Where: Crandon Beach Park (Miami Kiteboarding Site)

Registration: 9-10 a.m.
Rider Meeting: 10:30 a.m.
Racing Starts: 11 a.m.
Race Fee: 0, Nada, Zipo, FREE but…

All riders will be required to sign an event waiver and must have an IKO insurance number. Those that don’t have IKO insurance must sign in with Miami Kiteboarding and pay $10 insurance fee and will receive an IKO card. They are then eligible to purchase individual kitesurfing liability coverage at $78 per year. This will be good for future events and, according to MKB is valid worldwide.

Start: Timed sequence start from the boat
Pre start warning: several short horn blasts
5 minutes: single horn blast and raise of white flag
4 minutes: white flag down
1 minutes: single horn red flag up
START: red flag down with horn

Target time for each race: 12 – 15 minutes for first finisher

Number of races: maximum of 5 races to be completed. 1 discard will be awarded after 5 races are complete.

Prizes from Dakine, NPX, and Cabrinha will be awarded to the first 3 finishers in men’s, women’s, and masters (40 plus) OLIVER!

STAND UP and PADDLE!! NO WIND, NO PROBLEM!!!

SUP RACES: We will be setting up an interesting Stand Up Paddle Board race that will emphasize board control just as much as power and speed. This will be “Mano Y Mano”, featuring head to head racing of only two riders at a time. Winners will advance through heats to meet in final rounds.

Adventure Sport Miami will have a few SUP’s on hand for riders to use during their heats. Prizes will be awarded to the top 4 finishers.

The venue on a much more crowded day, you'll have the place to yourself by comparison

Hey Kent,

I put some images in your post. Sounds like a great event and the first of the season in this part of the state, yee-ha!

Good time of year for some wind or if not, an excellent beach venue for hanging out and ripping it up on standup boards.

See you down there

it looks like we will have a few "heavy hitters" at crandon for this event. Andre Phillip, Damien Leroy, and John Modica will be on hand to ride with the locals! Asi is also whipping together a small kicker and a rail so that the guys will have some toys to play with. These will not be a part of the event and will be for pro level riders ONLY as the rail will be a T bar and not totally user friendly...

So.

Saturday racing, riding, paddleing, fun! See you there.

Great Opportunity to have fun and throw the first race of the season at Crandon, Sponsored by Adventure Sports -

I'm looking forward to the SUP " mano y mano " pursuit contest !?

Those who want to join us at the end of the event for a drink and some food, we will be gathering at Joe's Tiki Hut by Rickenbaker marina: It;s our favorite "After-session" headquarters to enjoy a nice sunset on Miami Skyline view sipping a fresh ****tail at the end of the day .

We take the opportunity to announce officially the 2nd part of the 2008 MIAMI KITEMASTERS CONTEST that will be scheduled on the weekend of NOVEMBER 29th-30th 2008.

There will be a Kicker-slider expression session and freestyle, on the windiest day of the weekend..
As you remember back on April 2008, we could only run the Races due to no-wind on the Sunday.
We still have many Sponsors prices and a $500 cash price to be given for the contests

We will likely throw another race on the 2nd day.

The website will be updated in the next few days. and we will post further info next week.

Important :
Those who plan on attending the races this coming up November 15th or the one during the kitemasters, will need to get the IKO kitesurfer insurance necessary to ride in Crandon park.
So make sure to get your IKO card with us asap to be elligible to purchase the insurance on IKO website directly.

see you next weekend.
chris

Kent moved this one day event to Sunday, November 16, 2008. The forecast wind is a lot better, 15 to 20 kts. predicted in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and 20 kts. in southern Biscayne Bay. Crandon usually ends up somewhere between the two forecasts.

More about the forecast at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=6734

Before heading down this Sunday, let's take a quick look back at other events at Crandon.

Lots of flat shallow water full of kites

Jon and Jessie square off against Shannon Best in an early border cross race

Wonder what they're talking about?

Who can guess the identity of the mystery rider sanding his backside?

Andre and Oliver back in 2003 in Islamorada. This was the first time I had met Andre and just before his kiting career exploded upward. Dre and Oliver for that matter should be at the event on Sunday.

Should be a fun day, see you down there.
