Thumbs up davis island kiteboarding?

Is there any spots on Davis Island, Tampa to kitesurf? I know they windsurf there, just curious if anyone goes kiteboarding there. Reason, its 5 minutes from my house and the skyway is about 40 minutes. Or does anyone know of other areas in the tampabay area.

It does not look good for Davis Islands. The only real place to set up is right in the landing path of Peter o Knight airport. Which I beleave is not the ride any of us are looking for. I think it is also not legal to fly kites there. Of couse you know about Cyprus and Picnic island for any wind with some west in it.

Default Do not ride there

your right scott, you can not ride there. the people from the airport will be on you within minutes of putting your kite in the air. simply put it is not allowed. some people have already tried it.

I live on Davis Island and use to windsurf off of the point. The launch requires walking across some large rocks/boulders/oyster beds into some nasty water- there is no good beach to launch from at the point and only seawall downwind of you. Launching from the yacht basin would also be problematic with all of the derelict boats and swirling wind. There is a tiny beach at the mouth of the inlet to the basin but you have to be a member of the yacht club to access. As mentioned earlier this would put you in line with the landing strip at the airport; there are signs up saying that there is no kite flying allowed so you would probably have some issues with the FAA. Although tempted by the proximity I have never ridden and would not recommend riding off the end of Davis Island because of these issues.
