Default INFO please!!!

Whats up FKA...

- I live up in NC but am taking a trip in December with my family to the St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay area. Since my dad and I kite, we are trying to find a good kite spot to suggest to mom on where to stay. Didn't know if there are certain spots during this time of the year which are more ideal in this area (preferably freestyle instead of surf)? Or if you have like a top 5 beaches/launch spots to suggest to me? Any info on what the wind is typically like in December or anything else that I would want to know about the area before heading down would be great!!

Thanks in advance,
Ben Hopf

so far this season we've been having lots of easterly wind, and for flat water east beach in ft. desoto is definetly the spot as mentioned above. Check out the sticky thread on riding spots, and focus on spots that will work on easterly winds as they will likely be the most common during the time that you're here, mainly E, ENE, and NE and best during the morning and evening times. If a cold front comes through while you are here, you can grab some south wind at east beach ahead of the front, but for westerlys and north after the front passes, riding the gulf beaches in the surf will be your best bet, flat water spots for these directions are far fewer, and an hour drive from ft. desoto.
