I think you're right about the overlap on new kites Scott. I am planning my new quiver to look something like (7m)8m, (11m)12m, (17m)16m.

The low ends on the new kites are pretty good.
The fact my board has such insane low end only amplifies this low wind ability of the newer kites.
I actually think it might be my board more than the kites that is allowing me to have such great low ends on the kites (although the kites are powerful, the board is CRAZY! ) Many of the new boards, but especially the Flexi, have great low end for a "small" board.
I don't even use my Super Phatty anymore and sold it. There is zero need to even have that board anymore for me.
Once it hits 12 knots, I am on the "small" board, easily cruising upwind. That was impossible for me to do before this season on any other 130 by 40.

I can easily hold my 15m to 17 knots (can ride it in the low 20s no prob if it picks up and I have too). Since 17 knots is plenty for my 9m to do whatever I want, including being powered up for unhooked, I have good overlap with a 15m straight down to a 9m. Kinda sick.

This makes it really easy to hop from a 15 straight to a 9m, without an 11/12m "tweener" kite at my size.
Prior to this season, that would not have been possible. So, I guess I am saying the new kite's low ends seem great, but how efficient the newer boards are at getting up on and maintaining a plane makes is really amplifying the kite's abilities, big time.
