Default Cabrinha race series: First night

FIRST NIGHT: 2010 CABRINHA RACE SERIES

After completing state and federal tax obligations, eighteen racers took to the waters under the Golden Gate Bridge to inaugurate the fifth season of the Cabrinha Race Series.

Yes, the turnout out was lighter than the usual 30. At 2:00PM, the water was glassy under both the North and South Towers. At about 3:15pm the wind was still less the 9mph with not very good prospects to increase. At decision time, 4:00PM, the wind was at 10 and the race committee gave a thumbs up.

Regulars to the podium in past years Wasson and Headington were ready to race. As was the 2009 winner Stefaans Vijoens. A somewhat newcomer and world famous kite skimboarder, Joey Pasquali who recently moved to Sausalito was also ready to demonstrate his racing skills. There were also at least 5 first timers including a rider from Ohio, and Adam Vance from Washington State was there for his final tune up before the World’s.

Noticeably absent were former winners, Jeff Kafka and Anthony Chavez, Johnny Heineken (school), John Gomes (race committee) Eric Due, and Donny and Sandy Parker.

At the start of the first race the wind was averaging 13 with a 4.7 ebb. The wind then bumped up a bid to average 15 for the evening.

Three races were completed with Wasson (3,1,1) and Headington (1,2,2) tying for the top spot with 5 points and with Wasson owning the tie breaker. Stefaans was third for the evening with 9 points (2,4,3), Joey Pasquali fourth with 13 points (6,3,4). Kevin Richards with 16 points (4,5,7) and Adam Vance with 18 points (5,8,5) rounded out the top six spots.
