Default KiteMasters "Back to the Bay" Complete

www.TBKM.org

The 3rd Annual TampaBay KiteMasters was held Tuesday, April 29th with 65 men and women competing. The conditions were excellent with 16-23 knots of wind from the NNE.
The athletes traversed 19 miles of Tampa Bay from the Gandy Bridge to the Skyway Bridge.
A great video story by local reporter David Leonard can be seen at http://www.tampabays10.com/news/loca...?storyid=79273 Thank you Ch10!

Damien LeRoy of Naples, Fl set a new course record with a winning time of 47 min and 49. He averaged a blistering 24 mph! Local St Petersburg rider Mike Hall was right behind him and finished with a time of 48.40.
Eric Foht rounded out the top three with a time of 51.07. Chris Barrs, the 2006 winner of the inaugural TampaBay KiteMasters, had another great finish of 51.53 to take 4th place.

Melissa Gil took first place in the womens category with a time of 65.05. Stacey Fonas and Clarrissa Hempel followed closely in second and third place with times of 67.10 and 70.36 respectively.

This event could not have happened without the help and support of dozens of people and companies. Many thanks go out to Steve, John, and Steve-O and the rest of the team at Watersports West http://www.watersportswest.com/. They are responsible for holding the best kickoff party yet and donating prizes and their time to making this another awesome event.

Thank you to the TBKM team of Chris Moore, Tammy Falls, Amber Platowski, and Toby Wilson for their time and efforts.

I also want to thank Gene and Ted at Donzi Boats http://www.donzimarine.com/ for supplying a beautiful Donzi craft and jetski as rescue vehicles. Thanks also to Mark Goodwin and his 34 foot Contender for picking up several stranded contestents. Thanks to Scott and Randy's girlfriend (sorry forgot your name) for manning the jetskis and helping the kiters complete their journeys.

There are many other companies that donated their time and products to help us this year: NPX and Sub-Skin Apparel for killer jerseys, Dex Imaging for cash to pay for food and refreshments, Best Kiteboarding and Cindy at BestKiteboarding TampaBay.
Also Dakine, Ocean Rodeo, Transcend, Cabrinha, AirTime, Infinispin, and Slingshot for prize donations. Thanks to Holiday Inn Sunspree for the use of their facilities for the post party.

These companies stepped up and helped support us so next time you need gear or services please consider them first. Their company links can all be found on our website at http://www.tbkm.org/sponsors.htm
Everyone say thanks to Amber at www.KiteSurfingPics.com for taking tons of pics. You can see them on her website soon.

And finally thanks to all the riders for coming out and making the 2008 TampaBay KiteMasters a huge success. Many riders traveled long distances to compete. Thanks for keeping the faith!

Since the wind let up shortly after the event we were unable to hold the SPEED RUNS. We will hold this when the correct conditions come. We are waiting for 25-35 knots from the NE, E, or SE and more importantly a very low tide which will give us bathtub smooth water. We may be waiting until fall for these but it gives everyone time to practice.

See ya at the Beach !
