Default NW winds a comin!!!

Hey guys...I am coming down from NE for the Week and I was wondering where would be the best spot for some flat water with the upcoming forecast NNW???

Ill be around the Vero Beach area...Does the south side jetty @ Ft pierce work in that? Or would my best bet be for either Sebasitan Inlet or Melbourne

Thanks guys....

There might be some monster swells at Ft. Pierce in strong NNW winds but the wind will still likely be side offshore and not that rideable. I would check in with Greg at Treasure Coast Kiteboarding for more local info at:

Be sure to check in with AJ at Kitetricity for info on Melbourne and points there abouts. More at:

Sebastian can offer good riding in SW to W to NW from the pennisula that sticks into the ICW. There is a bird sanctuary on the point of this land mass. Make sure nothing protected is roosting. I think the area is used for nesting by Least Turns. They MAY roost from around May to June. I would think it would be a very good idea to avoid kiting this area then. Good news is that there usually are few useable winds out of the west at that time of year. The launch can be technical and a bit hazardous unless you try to do assisted launches in the shallows or perhaps off the leeward side of the point of land. Guys have bounced off of cars, signs, etc. here before.

Enjoy all that wind.

Here's another question about westerly winds and east coast launches ...

BTW, I have been watching your wind reports here. When our weather got crappy, your season kicked off pretty nicely. I have been real envious.....
Sometimes the guys go into the Loxahatchee River a few miles upstream from Jupiter Inlet by boat. There is a sand bar there. Still, I wouldn't go there myself as land wind effects are probably substantial.

Best advice would be to tool up the coast a ways, not that far to Sebastian Inlet. They have a peninsula jutting into the ICW that is good for ESS to W to NNW winds. Land effects are minimal. More about this at:

It is about 1.5 hrs. to the north of Jupiter, more at: http://tinyurl.com/y4k4rg

You could do a trip to the Miami Flats to the south if you can find boat space. It can be pretty incredible out there and rideable in winds from any direction, more at:

Yes, I've been saying we are having more of an old fashioned winter, like I remember from the '70's. Windy! Hope it goes off during your visit.
