The non-profit organization Royal 70 (royal70.net) works to create opportunities for Cuba's youth through extreme sports, music and art. Made possible by Jimmy Lewis Surfboards (JimmyLewis.com), StayCovered surf equipment (staycovered.com) and GoPro cameras (GoPro.com)
Music: Australia by Conner Youngblood Shot entirely with the GoPro Hero 3 Camera."

Mike has a photography exhibition from the trip and airing of the above video this Saturday.

"Before the Waves, the Hurdles

HAVANA — Eduardo Valdes peered out over the tin-roofed apartments of Playa, past the midcentury embassies of Miramar, to the glimmering royal blue of the distant Straits of Florida, searching for a hint of white rolling eastward from the Marina Hemingway.

“This is my surf report,” said Valdes, who, with his hair pulled into a bun and tattoos emerging past the hem of his board shorts, looks almost as Hawaiian as he does Cuban. “And it’s flat again. Where are my waves?”

The waves will come, up to six feet the next day, but for Cuba’s surfers the other staples of the sport are hard to come by. Surf wax, new boards or simple online surf reports are scarce. Cuban policies, combined with the American blockade, have made surfing in this country a complicated endeavor. "

and, as long as we're taking a look at Cuba, here is a totally unrelated fanciful clip that I just came across from Bacardi of history that likely never was.
