Default weather in January, Cumbuco BRASIL

Hi bros
Here the weather we had this month around here.
Some pics you can see checking www.kite-surf.com on the forum, thopic Cumbuco.

Sunday 1th Jan 2006 started raining, after 9 am wind started to pic up to 14-20 kts ESE, at 11h, 18-22 kts, at 13h 30 was very cloudy and wind turned SE, most people stopped kiting, some kites fell to the water and they had to swim to get the shore, wind returned at 17h to ESE and 12-16 kts.
Monday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 ks, at 12h, 18-23 kts, at 15h 16-20 kts and 14-17 kts until dark.
Today Tuesday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, at 13h, 16-22 kts, at 14h, 14-18 kts and 14 kts until dark.
Many people asking for kite lessons, no time to kite last days until I escaped today for a ride in Tabuba-Cumbuco limit, perfect flat and beautiful waves and all the way upwind towards Icarai villageWednesday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, at 12h, 18-23 kts, at 15h, 14-18 kts and at 16h 30 just 10-12 kts.
Thursday at 10h, ESE, 14-18 kts, at 13h, 16-20, at 14h 30, 16-18 kts, at 16h turning slightly E and getting down until 8-10 kts.
Today Friday started raining and SE, at 10h, turning ESE and 18-20 kts, almost perfect flat water right in front of Golfinho, great ride just by myself while towards Eco, some kites started to appear on the air, at 12h, 16-18 kts , at 14h 30, 12-16 kts and at 16h 30, up again to 14-18 kts.
The kite scene in Golfinho has slow down even more, some of the guys are on a kite trip towards Paracuru and further west, here in the hotel, just 4 kiters and a couple of begginers, meanwhile, wind has been keeping quite consistent except for those two days at the beggining of December, since end of November, when wind season is supposed to end, we had each day 14-20 kts, even 20-24 kts many days, getting ligther after 15h though often up to 14-16 kts, in low tide we are having at least a couple of days a week some good waves upwind towards Tabuba/Icarai, and also gone are the ugly shore break and the choppy morning rides in high tide; in short: kiter's heaven.By the way! If you're interested in the new school manoeuvres, have a look to the video that Carlos Saez took from his pal Alvaro Onieva, simply amazing.
Here the link: http://www.kiteforumtv.com/index.php...emid=7Saturday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, at 12h, 20-23 kts, consistent wind and almost flat water in mid low tide, at 15h, 16-18 kts and 14-16 kts until dark, the beach was really crowded with brazilian tourists on their one day organized trip to our beach.
Sunday, started raining until 9h, at 10h, ESE, 18-22 kts, up to 25 kts in the gusts, at 13h, 14-18 kts, turning slightly E, at 15h, 12-18 kts, gusty but bearable, at 16h 30, turning again ESE and 14-18 kts until dark, the beach was also very crowded and once again we had to endure the quad riders annoying everyone with the noise and the danger that supposes to have a non informed person (the one who rents it), on the handle bar of the quad, totally unaware of the dangers of driving over liying lines and around kites landed (in spite of all the boards forbidding to ride vehicles on the beach).
Monday started raining but at 10h turning ESE and wind slowly building, at 11h, 14-16 kts, at 12h, down to 10-12 kts and turning E, at 13h turning ESE again and 12-17 kts, after 15h, 10-13 kts and better if you had a surfboard because of the extra volume.
Tuesday, wind started earlier and stronger than yesterday, 12-16 kts at 9h 30 and 16-21 kts at 11h, to turn E after 10 minutes and go down to barely 10 kts, no coming clouds neither any reason that may explain why that happened, after half hour a bit up to 10-13 kts and at 14h, 12-18 kts, getting cloudier and coinciding with the high tide, a nasty shorebreak that costed a broken kite to some fellow local kiter, it remained 10-12 kts until dark.
Tomorow, after a long period of no initiatives, there's a meeting of all kite schools with the Secretaries of Sports and Tourism to talk about the kite on our area to try to find solutions to the old same problems.
Let's hope for the best...this time.
Wednesday started SE, quite gusty, at 10h, 18-26 kts, at 11h, turning ESE and 16-25 kts, at 12h, 16-22 kts, at 14h 30, 14-18 kts and at 16h 30, up to 16-18 kts.
Thursday at 10h, SE, 14-22 kts, at 11h 30, 18-24 kts, at 13h, 18-20 kts, at 15h, 14-18 kts and 14-16 kts until dark.
Today Friday, at 10h, SE, 14-20 kts, at 10h 30 turning ESE and 20-27 kts, sometimes up to 30 kts, in Cauipe people were quite overpowered on 10 mts, few kiters on the water, in Pecem extremely gusty and even being low tide, waves were not significant, it remained quite windy the whole day, at 15h, 18-23 kts and 16-20 until dark.
Finally, after almost one year, there was again a new meeting with the Prefeitura, Governo do Estado, Military Police and the kite schools, among the goals, to set some safe areas for swimmers and to be shared with the jangadas, and also try to mark a date to meet with the other colectives, bugeros, horse rental, quads, etc, to find solutions to the same old problems, share the beach and organize the different activities, we had Mr Ted Pontes, Secretary of Tourism in charge of the meeting, it was also fixed a meeting on each Monday at 16h in the restaurant Velas do Cumbuco where we will keep meeting next weeks, from this lines, invite again to all people who is related to the kite in our area.
Saturday starting SE to turn ESE at about 10h and 14-18 kts, half hour later were 18-24 kts, at 11h 30 went a bit down to 16-18 kts to go up again next, to 20-28 kts, sometimes up to 30 kts in the gusts, at 14h, 16-20 kts and about the same thing until dark, wind was rather gusty most part of the day, same thing the next two days, unusually windy but mostly quite gusty.
Sunday started ESE and 16-22 kts at 11h, after a while up to 18-25 kts until almost 16h and then slowly down to 12-16 kts until dark.
Today Monday, ESE and 18-22 kts, at 11h 30, up to 20-26 kts, at 14h, 16-20 kts and 12-16 kts until dark.
Quite few people on the water in Cumbuco and a couple of kites up in Golfinho.
This last days we are having November windy conditions but on an almost empty kite spot, Cauipe still holds up to 14 kiters and Taiba and Paracuru about the same numbers. Cheers. CRIS Tuesday at 11h, ESE, 18-23 kts, at 13h 30, 20-25 kts, rather gusty, at 14h 30, 18-22 kts, at 15h down to 12-14 kts and half hour later, barely 8-10 kts, in some moments up to 12 kts.
Wednesday started raining but at 10h we had 14-18 kts ESE, at 11h 30, 16-21 kts, at 14h, 16-20 kts, at 16h, down to 12-13 kts
Thursday at 10h, 14-16 kts, at 12h, 18-20 kts, a bit after, wind picked up to 20-23 kts, at 15h, 14-17 kts and at 16h, 10-12 kts, great waves on low tide in the Tabuba-Cumbuco limit, actually the whole week we had good waves, in high tide, the shore break quite annoying sometimes.
Today Friday started rainy, the whole night rained hard, but the day was sunny and windy, at 11h, ESE, high tide, very choppy and 20-25 kts, curious as the crew doesn't seem really hurried about kiting when water is choopy, even when are blowing 25 kts, actually they are becoming rather picky about water conditions, experience is a dregree, isn't it?
At 13h 30, in mid low tide things easened and we had once again a great wave ride 300 mts upwind from Golfinho, at 14h 30 wind dropped to 16-20 kts, at 16h, still 14-16 kts and until dark.
On sight a couple of kiters in front of Holland House, here in Golfinho, besides the group of almost locals, Jaime, Aimee and Dan from England, Jim from Oregon (leaving next week) just a couple of more guys, down towards Cumbuco some 10 more kites on the air.
January is being as windy as December and the rain season is still showing up only by nights!, Good! Let's keep it that way!!! Saturday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, at 11h 30, 18-25 kts, gust up to 27 kts! bloody January, no wind here! Ha!, at 14h, 16-20 kts, at 15h 30, down to 10-14 kts and up to 12-16 kts until dark.
Sunday at 10h, ESE, being that side shore in Golfinho, 16-22 kts at 12h, 14-20 kts, quite choppy conditions, at 15h, down to 8-12 kts, staying that way until dark.
Monday at 10h, 18-22 kts, at 13h, 16-20 kts, quite choppy and gusty again, at 14h 30, down to 12-14 kts and at 16h, 10-12 kts.
Today Tuesday at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, at 11h, 17-24 kts, noticeable shore break in high tide and really choppy conditions, therefore, even when the guys tried for a while, everybody returned back to the hotel, actually to the protective shadow of the beach bar, and waited for the tide start going down, at 13h, much rewarding panorama, 16-22 kts and water conds getting much nicer, at 15h, 12-16 kts and 10-14 kts after 16h 30 and until dark.
This days we are having strong wind (for the time) which generally slows down after 14 or 15 hours and abruptly dropping to 16-18 mts kite conditions (or a surf board).
The kite scene holds some 7-10 kites in the hottest moments in front of Golfinho, 3 new spanish kiters just arrived this week thanks to the new direct flight Madrid-Fortaleza which will get here twice a week.

Cheers. CRIS

Default Conditions en Cumbuco Fortaleza- BRASIL Enero 2006

Saturday at 10h, ESE, 16-18 kts, big waves on low tide, in front of Golfinho you could count up to 5 waves breaking on perfect sets, sometimes on the outside, waves were 3-4 mts if measured on the front of the wave, at 13h wind went a bit down, 14-16 kts, 12-16 kts until dark, in the water 4-5 kites, on high tide, water arrived up almost to the hotel beach front, the best day since the big swell back last October.
Sunday, at 10h, ESE, 16-20 kts, the waves, a bit smaller than yesterday but still quite big, perfect ramps and memorable riding again, at 12h, 13-18 kts, at 15h, 14-20 kts and 14-16 kts until dark, today we had quite a few brazilian locals on our area.
Unfortunately I rode alone, so, there were no pics of the waves, only at high tide, when the swell went down, some of the guys showed up (the pics), the sand bar of Icarai lagoon was flooded by the high tide, bringing more water to the lagoon, Robert and Hedwig, left yesterday, they can be considered almost locals, after their third visite in the last few months.
Today Monday, the swell was down, still some waves but nothing as the last two days, at 10h, ESE, 16-22 kts, at 13h, down to 14-18 kts to go up again to 16-20 kts, the choppy got bigger with the coming high tide, so did the shore break, the kite action today very calm, barely 3 kites in Golfinho and a few more towards Eco.
Today we had one more meeting with the kite schools and the local authorities, next one is scheduled for Friday, same time, same location, 16 at Golfinho, solutions are on the way!.
Here some pics of this days:

Default end of January and beggining of February

Tuesday at 10h, ESE, 14-18 kts, low tide with flat water and small rolling waves right in front of the hotel beach front, wind remained quite constant for the whole day and until dark.
Wednesday at 10h ESE, 14-18 kts, at 12h, 16-20 kts, turning slightly E at 13h and 14-18 kts, at 16h 30, 12-14 kts until dark.
Thursday at 10h, ESE, 14-18 kts, at 12h, 16-20 kts, at 15h, 14-18 kts and at 17h, a bit down to 12-15 kts, this last three days wind has been quite constant all the time, the kite scene remains quiet, with 2-3 kites in front of Golfinho and few more towards Eco.
To Locoforwind, funny name, that, if you'd live here, would probably lose its meaning:
If by a package you mean air ticket, accommodation and lessons, it's possible, mail me to kite4taleza@yahoo.com and detail me your accommodation preferences, about lessons, you couldn't choose a better time for it (unless it will start to rain, hopefully not), by this posts, you'll be able to see, we are enjoying perfect conditions for learning, side shore, constant 14-18 kts wind, all day long and.. empty beaches with hundreds of meters, downwind, allowing as much training free of obstacles and dangers, as you wish.
About the kite safari, as I assume is only for you, I think it should be better to book some day trips along with your wife and friend.
You need to know that with a 12 and a 16 mts you'll be able to kite all day, if you want to bring just the 12, a surf board could help on the light wind moments (12-14 kts).
The meeting scheduled for Friday, has been delayed to take place next Monday at 16h in Golfinho, here is the letter from the Secretary of Sports of Governo do Estado together with the Prefeitura of Caucaia, inviting to the meeting to all people implicated into kite activities

Friday started rainy until 9 am, then, ESE, firstly 12-16 kts, at 12h, 14-20 kts, at 15h, 14-18 kts and at 16h, 10-12 kts until dark.
Saturday, started rainy again, at 8 am, sun won the battle and at 10h we had 14-18 kts ESE, at 12h, 18-22 kts, at 14h, 14-18 kts, at 16h, 16-20 kts and 14-18 kts until dark.
Sunday we had many brazilian local kiters around, mostly begginers, also in Jack's place, after Hacky and Rossi leaved, a group of brazilians are bringing some action to the pousada, mostly on weekend, good for Jack's bussines, I guess.
At 10h we had 16-20 kts, at 12h, 20-23 kts, at 14h 30, 18-22 kts, turning slightly E, after a while, and, staying that way until 16h 30, then, 14-18 kts and until dark, great windy weekend, though waves were down if compared with the beggining of the week.
Tomorrow at 16h is scheduled the meeting in Golfinho, I hope we'll have everybody there this time.
Here some more pics of the action today.

Quiet kite scene in Golfinho

Last week she was watching him ride...today

She was riding herself

Brazilian locals on our area today

some local beauties too

windsurfers

and a very common bird on our skies, lately

some unwanted noisy quads

besides that...

just one more windy day

Monday at 11h, ESE, 12-14 kts, at 13h turned E, 12-15 kts, at 16h stayed for half hour on the 14-16 kts, to go down to 10-12 kts until dark, on low tide there were nice (and unusual) sets of waves in front of Cumbuco, quite appealing, if it wasn't because there were just 10-12 kts.
Tuesday at 11h, ESE, 10-13 kts, at 13h, 12-16 kts, at 15h, 12-14 kts and 10-12 kts until dark, big shorebreak in high tide both days.
Today Wednesday, the swell went down, some shorebreak on high tide but in low tide, almost no waves, at 11h, 12-16 kts (contrary to the forecast www.surfguru.com.br), at 12h and for a while, 16-20 kts, after, 14-16 kts until 15h, then 12-14 kts first and 10-14 kts until dark, some funny rides with the 18 mts, after quite long ago, it seems as another sport, I guess I'm too used to 9-10-12 mts, that's why the funny feeling when back to big sizes.
This last 3 days, the wind went (finally) definitely down, I would say, to the expected standars for the date, hopefully going a bit up from next Monday.
