Default or... how about a 185 mile DW!!!

If we don't have takers for the Mia stage race... we could do a leg check and do 185 form Coco to Crandon! Saturday looks good. It does go with out saying that this would really be unsupported! Let me know!

The forecast for Cocoa to Jupiter is:

SATURDAY
NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS. SEAS 4 TO 5 FEET.
CHOPPY ON THE INTRACOASTAL WATERS.

and for Jupiter to Deerfield it's a bit lighter but building through the day:

SATURDAY
NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS BECOMING 15 TO 20 KNOTS
IN THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET NEAR SHORE AND UP TO 8 FEET IN
THE GULF STREAM. INTRACOASTAL WATERS CHOPPY IN EXPOSED AREAS.

The last leg, Deerfield south looks lighter but perhaps doable as long as the wind hovers near the upper part of the range:

SATURDAY
NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. NEAR SHORE...SEAS 2 TO
4 FEET BUILDING TO 3 TO 5 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON. IN THE GULF
STREAM...SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET BUILDING TO 5 TO 7 FEET IN THE AFTERNOON.
INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

Kent, what do you guess the range in travel time for the leaders might be? Based upon past experience the range might be from say 10 hours to 16 hours plus? Sunrise is about 6:30 am and sunset is 8 pm, so you should have adequate light for riding assuming you start at about 6 am for say 15 hours, max. Of course there is quite a bit of light from the Miami skyline. It would be interesting and a strong test of endurance to be sure.

Takers?

I'm going to talk to Damien L. to see if he is in. Ideally, it would be good to have a bit more breeze. I think that in the winds forecasted and the broad angle, we would be looking at an average speed of 16 - 18 mph. This should give the leaders about 11.5 hrs. to finish. It's workable although we may want to wait for 20 plus. Anyone?

Sweet!!! Keep me informed if this happens. I will supply water, gatorade and snacks at a rest stop at Tiki Beach if wanted. Cheers Neil
