Same up this way, largely. I have traditionally thought of this time as the "May Calms." The wind would turn off in mid May and stay turned off until later June. The thermals would kick in closer to July.

This year, I am not so sure. It seems to be a better thermal wind year. Case in point, last night I wasn't expecting any wind and yet it turned on in Pompano and some guys were actually powered up there. I don't think it really turned on in Delray Beach. It seems to be localized at times.

I would try to find out if thermal winds turn on in your area, usually later in the day be try to divert over for some water time if possible. Rush seems to be doing pretty well in the Panhandle. Maybe we should go there!

It seems that the west coast of Florida gets better winds than us. The bahamas are lucky to get plenty of good wind during the summer, and there just miles away from us!
BTW, What are thermal winds, and are they ever going to turn on @ Biscayne bay???

I thought parts of the west coast might do better too. Still, after talking with them I am not so sure. However, the Tampa area appears to lead the State in storm activity in the summer based upon lightning frequency maps, so who knows?

There is a pretty good tutorial on seabreezes aka thermal winds at:
http://marine.rutgers.edu/cool/seabreeze/tutorial.html

Some stuff on predicting sea breezes appears at:
http://www.sailingworld.com/article....D=575&exclude=

oh, and if you just aren't getting enough lift with normal sea breezes, you can always try to predict and have a whirl with a waterspout! You might be able to hit cloud base and then some. If you are unconscious or dead, does the jump still count? More about predicting seabreezes AND waterspouts at:

Thanks for the info of the thermal winds, aka wind gradient, aka summer breezes. (U get the point). Well, Ima go to south america for june and come back just in time for July's breezes.
Dude, I love ur sarcasm on the watersprounts. And yea, the jump counts.
