Default Spots

I was wondering where people ride that live north of Clearwater other then the Skyway? I have been riding at the same spot for the last 7 years and since I have moved I am hating the long drive to that spot but hey ya get spoiled when ya have it all to yourself (one other rider there) for that long. I have explored on my ski and found lots of places to ride but was wondering if that was the only way to go. I feel stupid since I have lived in this area and been riding for so long yet have never ridden at the Skyway or East beach, like I said ya get spoiled to secluded spots. Anyway thanks for the help, great to see a group of riders in the area.

Hey Kitebum there are several really nice spots to ride north of Clearwater.

The holy grail of sick spots up that way hands down is Caladesi/Honeymoon Island.
The south pass between Honeymoon/Caladesi is a frequented spot, watch out for the boat traffic and beachgoers (swimmers clear out of the water when you mention shark  ). This is an ideal spot to ride the sea breeze with an outgoing tide.

Three Rooker sandbars, north of Honeymoon is a choice spot, great for learning and epic down winders. Anclote Key is the most northern barrier island, close to 12 NM from the Dunedin Causeway, which in kitespeak translates into epic down winder.

Sunset Beach is in Tarpon Springs, adjacent to Howard Park. Not allowed to launch kites at Howard, but you CAN ride over in that area after launching @ Sunset. Limited launch area at SB, so it’s a smart idea to rig on the sand at the end of the street and water launch the kite.

If you have a jet ski the spots to ride are limitless.

South of Clearwater you will find kites at Sand Key, Indian Rocks Beach, Redington and most other beaches along Gulf Blvd. There is a Trolley you can ride wet soaking with sandy gear for $1.25 from Sand Key all the way to Pass A Grille and many of us do when the wind is NW/W/SW.

Hope to see you on the beach one of these windy days which I do pray arrives sooner than later. Everyone here has one thing in common, so if you will launch our kite we'll launch yours. Welcome to the forum.

Awesome thanks for the input like I said for the past 7 years I have been riding on Anna Maria with Wayne (some may know him) but since I now live in Palm Harbor that drive is a bit much, especially for the one hour sea-breeze session and 3 hours in travel. I go to Honeymoon a lot now especially since I have a ski and yes the ski opens up riding locations. Thanks again and maybe I'll get to meet some of you on the water.
