Default How do you retrieve kite going offshore?

Had a bad time today. My father had to release his kite and it was heading offshore. When I got to it, I released the air out of LE. That kept it from blowing out any further. I tried to get the bar and drag it in. I was going ok but the runaway kite was filling up with water so it was a lot of drag. Then my kite went down as I was dicking around with the lines/bar on his kite. So I made it to fishing pier (picnic island) where some fishermen pulled my kite in and tore it,(see post below). I managed to get his kite and bar in with no damage. Two questions: what is proper procedure to rescue a kite in that situation and how do you get the water out of LE bladder. (Not a lot, maybe 8-10 ounces) Thanks.
