Default Need Brazil Advice

I would like to check out Brazil. Has anyone gone there-done that? Would appreciate any advice on where to go, what to do and more importantly what NOT to do. Transportation and accomodations suggestions etc. Thanks!

Default brazil info

Ken.... there is an eckerd student, Stephanie that is from brazil and a kitesurfer here at East Beach.....she has a brother who is an instructor in the NE part of Brazil and runs a resort. Also, talk to Chase (watersports west instructor)....I think he has been down there. I am originally from Brazil but have not done any kiting down there...... you gonna need a visa to get into the country..... and flying to the NE of Brazil may take a couple of flights/stops before you get there. Good beer, friendly people, great food...and I am sure you have heard of the brazilian bikinis.... you may not come back! enjoy.

I was going to go this year but had to cancel. Check out a place called Cumbuco - it is epic. Go to kiteforum.com and do a search for Brazil. Tons of info. The moderator on that website lives in Cumbuco 6 months of the year. His name is Toby

Default Thanks for the input

Thanks to all that replied. After checking the flights for January I had to reconsider. They are incredibly expensive! North of $2k round trip. So I have decided on Aruba for now. Anyone have advice/experience-lets have it.

rent a car so that you can kite at boca grande...much more steady winds on that end of the island...fisherman huts....gusty..

I've kited in Northern Brazil and Aruba. My opinion is that the wind in Brazil is way better. At Aruba Fisherman's Huts is offshore wind that is up and down b/c its off shore. The area near the prison (Boca Grande I think) had better wind. Just watch out for the sharp shallow reef where the waves break and you will need to rent a car.

If you ever get the chance to go to Brazil, fly to Fortaleza and Cumbuco is a small town nearby with great kiting. But, its well worth the travel from there to Jouricoacoara, which is an amazing place. The kiting is at a nearby Beach called Prea which gets the unobstructed wind off the ocean. If you stay at Jouricoacoara you can arrange for someone to take you in a dunebuggy over to prea for kiting. In the afternoon you can kite downwind back to Jouricoacoara. I went there on my honeymoon 5 yrs ago and that town is incredible. It is in a national park that has 400 foot high sand dunes, no paved roads - all sand. The placed had a great vibe. Aruba on the otherhand just had casino-resort development that in my opinion was not so cool, and the wind didn't compare to Northern Brazil.
