This weekend looks nuclear...accuweather (yes its still early for a forecast)
says almost 40mph thats like 36kts...
If its that crazy i will go, but probably just to watch...

So here is my question if its peaking at +or- 30kts im going... the only kite I have worth flying is my 13roo... so I will set it to AC and probably the last knot on the rear bridle....... what do u think? I weight approx 215lbs

if it was an 07, id say maybe, but i wouldnt even think of launching an 08 13m in solid 30..... and im 205lbs and love riding litt.....

the 08's dont have as much depower as the older versions....

in solid 30 i can ride a 5m waroo and hit jumps...
jsut my 2 cents

Default What the.....?

What gives?

thats quite a different forecast from accuweather...
Id figure all weather sites would be a little different but thats ridiculous..
what... do we all have to become meteorologists and do our own forecasting...

Oh well the 13 might even be too small for that.......
Thanks Raul...

If its nukin' I have a new 9m Unleashed for demo .The logos are gone and color scheme is all black with orange stripe(sweet). Its very fast, flat, and high AR. I also have 12 Unleashed and 10,12,and 15 Vicious kites and Tracker boards (128x37 and 140x40) for test rides anytime.

35 is the (scary) top end on my 9m waroo (2008) if that gives you some idea.

I weigh 190.

But, I think your 13 will be fine if it's blowing a solid 15+. In that I am on my 9m.

I had my 08 13m up in 20-25kts...
I was screaming down the line...but it was set to ab and the 3rd knot from the kite on the rear bridle...

This is probably not a good judgement decision but damn ive missed a lot of wind cause of this stingray crap...

Well it looks ( from bigR's post ) that it wont be that windy anyway, so I wont have to do anything stupid...

The 13m in 30+ would be a definite problem. The 9m would be a problem for most unless just bearing off wind and hauling butt.

It's still several days away and should be considered entertainment, but accuweather usually has the best forecast, imo.
If they are saying gusts to 40, it's probably going to be windy at some point.
It looks like Friday is going to be simply epic. Considering the strength of the predicted south on Friday, it won't surprise me if it cranks on Saturday for at least the first half of the day. If it does, just wait til the second half to ride, Jason.

The rear line a-b-c knots are simply for turning speed adjustments..
the only knots on your kite that adjust power are the rear line connection points.. yes the farther from the kite the more depower.. but......

you have to understand that the difference between 10mph and 20mph is VERY different than 20mph and 30mph.. there is some calculations that some others might know..but its something to the effect of "every 5 mph is essentially doubling the wind force".. I could be WAY off.. but its not like you can say.. "its blowing 20 now.. and when it blows 10 i can barely feel it .. so 20 + 10 = something i can take my 13m kite out in.."..
its a very common misconception and something that I had to experience myself to understand.. 30mph is 4 times as strong as 20mph (i think thats correct..)

you can barely stand up against a solid 30 wind.. its boarder line tropical storm conditions..

i weigh 200lbs and last week flying the 13 in gusts up to low 20 and it was nearly too much..and i consider myself a skilled rider.. if the wind had been solid 18 to 20 i would have been perfect on my 9.. that it was blowing 12 to 20 i had to use the 13 to ride in the lulls..

be safe..

i'd recommend picking up a 8 to 10 meter kite.. you will use it..

It's a power of squares scenario.
You basically square the wind speeds in question and then compare them (divide).
Detailed formulas can be found for wind turbines or sailing vessels in racing books.

When you double wind speed, you quadruple the power (10 to 20 is 100 compared to 400 when squared).
30 knots has 2.25 times the power in the kite that 20 knots puts in the kite.

Going from 30 to 35 increases the power by about 35%.

The adding 5 knots and doubling force only works in low wind speeds. Actually, from 5 to 10 it would quadruple force.
