Default The Slice - A study in SUP form & function

Jimmy Lewis has been shaping boards for a while, over forty years in fact! Bringing form and function together can become an art form over time. Jimmy Lewis is known for doing just that. Here is a look at his displacement race board, the Slice. This particular board is the Limited Edition model celebrating JL's fortieth anniversary. It joins the yellow regular production Slice model in wide use and winning races all over!

The Slice Race Board is an innovative displacement shape from Jimmy Lewis. It is designed to slice through the water rather than push it ahead slogging along. Given the trim shape, you have less drag allowing better speed with less effort. Also, the more you weigh, the more water it displaces providing necessary buoyancy. The less you weigh, no problem, it just rides higher, all in the same board. Conventionally going with longer or shorter boards has been the way of dealing with the weight issue.

This is what appears on the JL website about the Slice:

SLICE - Displacement Board for Racing

"We cannot keep up with demand for the Slice. People just want to win races. This board sells out instantly, so either contact your local Jimmy Lewis dealer or lock yours down here!

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee. It's Jimmy's latest displacement shape. Designed to slice water instead of slogging through it. Less resistance and drag equals speed with less effort. Comes with JL race center fin, built in handle, self regulating air vent, recessed deck pad and optional rail handle inserts.(rail handles not included)

List of Placings:
1st Place Mens Gables to the Bay Regatta
1st Place Womens Gables to the Bay Regatta
1st Place Womens Power to the Paddle
1st Place Womens Jupiter Paddleboard Invasion"

Recently at the Kam Islander SUP race in Pompano Beach the Slice scored 1rst, 2nd, 3rd., 4th and 5th!

(I don't think this lists all the wins as of this writing either)

I picked up the Slice for my wife who has been beat by about 55 lbs.! I am at around 185 or more on the odd day while she is at 130 lbs. Garry and Ken said the board would perform equally well for both of us given the displacement hull concept. I've been using it recently and they are right. It is quite stable too even in chop at my greater weight. How many boards would work well across such a weight difference? It is stable enough for me to want to take it out into large schools of spinner sharks, should one ever show up where I happen to be looking for them!

Well, there's always man-o-war, these days anyway.

A great performer even out of races.
