I think you are missing the big picture here.

From my perspective, we only have a few people willing to take time out of their lives to organize an event like this. Let alone to do it around the holidays! For that matter, I am really thankful to Enrique and his family for putting in the effort and making this happen.

Now you are bringing up the point that there was no 24h notice, and because of that you didn't go to the updated starting location. I think you have a bad attitude by complaining to Enrique about this, especially on an open forum.

You're goal logically should be to prevent this from happening again in the future. To do this, maybe instead of complaining you should learn to take more responsibility to stay informed. This includes taking the initiative to check the websites, call organizers, and confirm with other participants. Talk to other riders who did go to the correct starting location, and find out how they stayed updated. Remember, the majority of riders had no problem...

If you have feedback for Enrique about improvements he could make, take the time out of your life and have the courtesy to give him a call. But remember, if you piss off the organizers, they will simply stop hosting!

For folks that haven't put one of these events on before, it is a lot of work, sacrifice, even risk and personnel commitment at times. Personal cash even goes into making these things a reality at times. Why would anyone do such a thing?

Lots of reasons, love of the sport, giving back to the kiting community, creating an opportunity for young riders to ease into competition or just get together and have fun. I interviewed Enrique after the first contest a couple of years ago as he graciously drove me back down to the starting point after. There is a lot of thought, consideration, volunteer and sponsor efforts and even cash that go into these things. There are only a few events in Florida for these and other reasons.

If you joined this forum to make that your first post, you missed the boat on how to treat people in general, much less someone who puts the time and effort required to pull off one of these events in a sport that you have spent a lot of time enjoying.

I had heard Damo had the race in the bag but just blew past the finish line. I think this is twice now Damo has done this. Slow down man.

I was just trying to be funny... not picking on you or anything. I just thought it was sad that someone would attempt to kill the stoke of a congratulatory thread with such a post.
As everyone pointed out, getting in touch with you personally would have been more of a stand-up approach (let alone all the mentioned leaks in this "I can't find the race" tale).

I think most people assume course racing (not a DW) when they say "race", keep that in mind.

I think that for down wind, the jury is still out to some extent on which type of board is faster. Damo was pulling a horizon job on everyone and simply blew by the finish, but you kind of have to take him off the top anyway. Jeremy and Sean are both incredible kiters and competed on Twins. I'd suggest that over the long haul down wind, directionals will be faster. In shorter events like Naples, especially when run nearly dead down wind, Twins work pretty well given the fast change of direction.

Hopefully we will have a few more races to find out. Thanks to the organizers of Naples, it was a blast. See you next time.
