Default Questions about a couple of places.

Hey guys,

I live in Georgia and kite on Tybee Island every chance I get. I am
headed down to West Palm next week to visit a friend and try and get
some kiting in. While I am sure we can hit his usual spot on the
beach, I would like to try something other than the beach. Which
brings me to my first question.

Has anybody kited Lake Worth? From the looks of the map it should
be similar to kiting the sound side of Hatteras. If it is kitable,
is it possible to make a long downwinder out of it.

I would also appreciate any info about places to that are off limits
or places deemed as unsafe in the West Palm area.

Also, I may want to make a trip back to my old stomping grounds of
Tampa and,if I do,I would love to kite the Sunshine Skyway area.
Another possible interest is off MacDill AFB near Bayshore. Any
info about these areas would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Roger

Lake Worth is fairly narrow with few launching areas near parking areas. I would discourage riding there as the wind is likely disturbed by nearby buildings, you are east of a major international airport and in general I think the complaint potential would be fairly high. The only conditions that folks might consider it for would be SW to W to NW.

Lake Worth

Given the relatively poor riding conditions you might do better traveling up to Stuart or Sebastian Inlet to the north or even better to Marco Island on the west coast (or points north on the west coast), IF strong westerly winds are on. If the wind is from easterly directions and you want calm sheltered water you would do well to travel to the Keys or Biscayne Bay. Lake Worth is fairly narrow by comparison to many areas certainly far narrower than the Sound at OBX as I remember it. More about SE Florida spots appears at: http://kiteflorida.com/locations.htm

Stuart
Note: The Stuart launch in particular is fairly technical with trees, cars, pavement, etc. Also, I am not sure how things stand after the hurricanes regarding damage/access at this point. If you use this launch, doing an assisted launch/landing from the shallows away from all the hard stuff makes sense.

Regarding the west coast, you can post an inquiry on the NW Florida forum of this site at: http://fksa.org/viewforum.php?f=65 Eagle should be able to help you out with local info.

Thanks for all the info, and the useful links. I am looking forward to kiting in some warmer weather/waters. Hope to meet some of you all while I am down.

Take care,

Roger
