Scott, You tried the 12m XBow II yet?
I've got one I'm gonna try demo this weekend , if we get some wind hopefully here in tampa  Maybe we can try the contra and xbII 12 side by side to see how they compare if you come down sometime

Scott sounds like you went over to the darkside with the bow kites and a Contra Wow :P Hope we catch up with you and Donna soon for some kiting either west or east coast.
I have been loving those bow kites for awhile. I have to say when I was at the Gorge I was wondering how the heck I used to ride the 8 nitro out there. I was on the 7xbow everyday except for one day on the 9xbow. I think I used to just hang on for my life out there with the nitro 8M kite. Crazy stuff would not do that now. Also when we went to the Oregon coast I had no problem in the waves and was on the 7xbow the whole time. I think it was about 18-25 and surpisingly it was great in 18 and if it had picked up to 30 I would still be fine. 35+ is no fun for me even on the 7 cuz all I do is ride around with arms out as far as they go :shock: I don't think I would have been able to ride on the Oregon coast on the C kite.

Btw, 50 knots is 60mph.

I tried 60 mph once, I think anyway, can't really be too sure. Still, that is what nearby wind records said. Also, it was with a first generation four line LEI, the Naish AR5, a 9.5 m. I had been riding for two years prior to that time.
The experience sucked, big time. 60 mph can create a ton of power, an amazing quantity at blinding speed, more than your mind can grasp. Flat kites are truly an innovation. Then again, I had one invert once many months back. It dragged me out of control and bent a 1 inch diameter solid carbon control bar 3/4 inch out of linearity. This was only in about 30 mph too. I sheeted out too much after a small jump causing it to invert, my bad. That was with an early kite tuned for max depower at the pigtails, which was also probably a mistake, the new ones are less prone to invert. Experienced guys are four times more likely to lose it in a kiting accident than newbies. Why is that?

In 50mph, you need to bury your board in the sand or it'll blow away and tumble down the beach. I can't imagine even considering riding in 60mph.
When you dive your kite hard in 60 just how fast are you going in that 1 second?
