Default Nearest kitable beach to Orlando

Hi guys over here from the UK for a trip to the theme parks 22-31 Oct, i'd love to sneak in a crafty session in between roller coasters if I can.

I guess Cocoa beach is a good bet, are there any other beaches within reasonable traveling time from Orlando?

Also what's the wind like around that time? Will I need a wetsuit? and finally last question! Is there anywhere to hire kit, not sure I want to drag mine around fo the odd days kiting.

Thanks for your help

Hello Pilch,

The cold fronts should start moving through by late October and with luck one will bring some stronger winds during your stay. Cocoa is one option and Ponce Inlet is another a bit further to the north. With the highway your travel time to Ponce will be about the same to Cocoa. The sea and wind conditions should be about the same, however there may be fewer bystanders at Ponce Inlet. You might want to bring a shorty or 3/2 full suit as the air temperature will drop particularly in Central Florida with some of the cold fronts. You might be able to rent a board from A.J. http://fksa.org/viewtopic.php?t=2565 or from Sandy Point Progressive Sports http://www.progressivesports.com/ . I am not aware of anyone that rents kites in Florida unfortunately. For historical winds in the area checkout the archives at: http://www.ikitesurf.com/windandwher...otBar=snapShot

or http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Florida.shtml
around Melbourne.

Have a good trip, hope some good winds blow through!

Hey thanks Rick, some great info in there, I think i'll check the forecast before I come over then decide if it's worth bringing my kit.

See you in a few weeks, fingers crossed it'll blow!

The cold fronts have been fairly light to date. This may change with time however. Look in on the ikitesurf realtime winds for that area of Florida to get a feel for the winds the fronts are delivering. Useful forecast info can be found at:

It's not the easiest launch, but we were out last Sunday on Playalinda Beach on The Canaveral National Seashore, which is N/W of Titusville and within sight of NASA's 39B launch pad. Won't be many people there in October. Go to access #8. Another good launch, particularly after the summer beer drinkers are gone, is the Rte 406 Causeway on the way to the CNS. Shallow protected water and sideshore with winter NEasterlies. About 40 miles from downtown Orlando.

Thanks for your input on this. There haven't been any issues with the Air Police or others at Playalinda? Sounds like a great more lightly populated launch. How do the winds compare there to points north and south? It is a bit of a land projection, hence the question.

Thanks again,
