Private Messaging???

I show 1 priv message in the nav box up top.. but when clicking on it I get:

Your administrator has disabled private messaging.

Whats the deal, yo!

Had the choice of shutting it off temporarily or peppering the membership with "porn tub" spam. Chose the former, still trying to fix this.

The site has had extensive updating today. Since the updates went in I haven't noticed what I have learned to interpret as activity by this particular bot. Fingers crossed as I am about to turn PM's back on.

NOTE: IF YOU RECEIVE PM'S WITH SOMETHING LIKE THE FOLLOWING IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

"Have You ever seen this website....."

then JUST DELETE IT, DON'T OPEN IT.

Hopefully this pest has been closed out but I wouldn't be astonished to learn it managed to send out a bunch of spam via PM BEFORE I shut down PM's on the site.

Yea Rick, the dude with the handle 'surferguy' got at least some out...I got one and I am sure others did. Not sure if you deleted this profile or not but that is the one sending them...

It looks like this may be fixed for now. I haven't seen any activity nor have I heard about any since the changes. If anyone else receives spam PM's dated from 7.19.08 or after, please notify me. For any existing Private Messages, PM's floating around with:

"Have You ever seen this website....."

then JUST DELETE IT, DON'T OPEN IT.

I am still looking at other procedures to keep spambots out. Unfortunately, from the article Scott put the link up for, the bots now have human help at times. Makes things harder but we'll manage, always have before.
