It is not a bad thing, and would be nice if they offered it as an option. I'd opt for the best possible kite at the best price they can offer and I can assume the risk of damage. If a repair is needed due to a problem with materials or workmanship the company should cover it even if it is beyond their warranty period. I don't think they should charge you up front for repairs that may be due to a defect. That is just me though. I'm a cheap bastard and it galls me what I pay for health insurance that is essentially me betting Aetna $500/month that I will get sick and them betting I won't.
