Default Want to learn in Lower Keys...any advice?

Hi guys. I've recently become interested in kite surfing, and from what I've read on here it looks like the Lower Keys would be a decent place to learn. I planned to take a flats boat out into the Bay with one of my friends that also wants to learn. Is that a good plan?

Any suggestions of what gear I should start with to learn on in this area? Should I buy a trainer kite first, or just start out in the water with a real kite? How long does it typically take to learn to kite surf?

Also, I've never used one of these kites before, and I am unclear if it is possible to go into the wind with it, like to basically end up where you started, or do you just have to swim/walk back?

Thanks
Ek

Default kiteboarding in the Lower Keys

Hello Ek,

First of all and most important, get in touch with someone who can provide you with a little bit more information before heading out there with your friend.

You may get into big trouble from what you have explained, so far, you have not had any Instruction.

I recommend that you visit this site for more information. They will be able to help you out.

EK:

The Kite House is GREAT! My wife and I recently went through training there. The training location is perfect. They take you to the flats away from obstructions and are very very focused on the students safety. You are not rushed into anything. They use the newest Cabrinha BOW kites (very safe).

I would not reccomend trying to learn on your own. It's a very dangerous sport if you are trained correctly. The Kite House training approach is very segmented which I find makes learning much easier.

Again I have just started and all I know is The Kite House way but you have to aks yourself..what other way is there........

PM me if you have any more detailed questions.
