Default FLORIDA GUIDE - SE Coast, Jupiter

Jupiter/Juno Beach

Provided by Jeremy Greene of Jupiter Kiteboarding
http://www.jupiterkiteboarding.com/

Kite Beach
The number 10 on top of the shower post denotes Kite Beach. Kiteboarders have flocked to this area because of the lack of public beachgoers and consistent surf. When the winds pick up onshore, it can create a hefty shore break and strong rip currents.

The kites have now become a draw for spectators and this spot can get overcrowded easily. It is recommended that beginners approach this area cautiously. This is the site for the Annual Jupiter Kiteboarding Invasion. See photos and descriptions of past events at:

Good Wind Directions: N, NE, E, SE

Civic Center ˆ Carlin Park
Found at the northern end of Carlan Park this area has life guards on the beach and buoys in the water. Stay clear of the guarded areas when kiteboarding and do not launch directly upwind of the guarded areas. Stay outside of the swim buoys. The Lazy Loggerhead café is here on the beach and serves a great breakfast and lunch.

Good Wind Directions: N, NE, E, SE

Jupiter Inlet ˆ Dubois Park
The Southside of the inlet has guarded beaches and also attracts many surfers. Kiteboarders generally launch from the south end of the parking lots just south of the life guard stands. The spot generally works the best on N and NE winds.

Good Wind Directions: N, NE

Jupiter Inlet ˆ Northside
The only public access to this beach is on the side of the road just north of the entrance to Jupiter Island. To the North and South of the area there are large sharp rocks underneath the surface. Recommended for experienced kiteboarders only!

Good Wind Directions: N, NE

Coral Cove
A large sign on the east side of beach road on Jupiter Island denotes this spot. This is a guarded public beach and also contains numerous rocks above and underwater. This is a popular surfing spot and is only recommended for experienced kiteboarders.

Good Wind Directions: N, NE, E, SE

Blowing Rocks
This state park on Jupiter Island beach road and is famous for its rock formations and blowing water. This spot handles a large swell well because of the rock bottom, but can be extremely dangerous for kiteboarding because of the rock ledge on the beach. The best way to access this break is down winders form Coral Cove or Hobe Sound public.

Hobe Sound Public
Found directly at the end of Bridge road in Hobe Sound. This guarded public beach. Kiteboarders can either go north or south of the life guard stands. This beach tends to be less crowded than Jupiter beaches. Because the land turns a little more to the NW in Hobe Sound a NNW wind direction is acceptable.

Good Wind Directions: NNW, N, NE, E, SE

Refuge
Found at the extreme northern end of Jupiter Island. This beach is usually has very few beachgoers and is an excellent destination to get away from the crowds. There are big sandy beaches with few rocks.

Good Wind Directions: NNW, N, NE, E, SE

Sandbar
This area can only be accessed by boat. Only during some portions of the day is the sandbar exposed. The area is extremely tidal which creates strong currents. It is important to check the wind directions and current to ensure they are traveling in opposing directions. There is a large shallow area which can be great for learning board riding and water re-launching.

Good Wind Directions: Any wind direction as long as tide is in opposing direction.
