Default FT. LAUDERDALE KITEBOARD PARTY - HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Matt with Cabrinha, Dave & Jeremy with Floridakiting.com, Neil with XRATEDKITEBOARDING & Slingshot decided it was high time for a party and DVD fest, this time in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA.

They decided to have at it Automatic Slims. WHERE in the world is Automatic Slims?

Well, it's got to be in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida ...

I think we found it, right at 15 West Las Olas Blvd. Let's head in and see what's cooking ...

Slims looks like a nice place

Video's on

The friendly staff gets ready to roll

Hanging out, Damien enthralled with the latest Kiteboarder Mag., probably in the Safety Rick zone ...?

Pete Cabrinha's "Metropolis" is underway ...

The gang's all here

It's starting to fill up, the bar maids have to walk the bar just to get around

Getting into motion ...

Group shot ... Neil and friends

Pete's having a good time too

The lovely CJ and friend.

CJ isn't sporting an oversized funky ring but in fact a brace for her broken finger. It was fractured about one month ago and she is still going through rehab sad to say. She was out a bit overpowered on a 9 m kite in 25 mph conditions, was drifting away from the support boat down in the Keys and decided to pull the plug by dropping her bar. The kite was fairly powered up when she tried to depower to the kite leash when her wrist leash cuff violently pulled over her hand. In the sudden speed of such things, her finger was badly fractured in the process.

Most kiteboarding companies at one time or another have used wrist leashes. I have owned plenty myself. You need to be careful to firmly (not too tight), attach them, free of sand, etc. that might impair function. Still a few years ago, I moved away from them with a passion for a variety of reasons going to a spreader bar attachment. The "corkscrew of death" comes to mind (when the wrist leash line hangs up on the far side of your bar making the lines uneven, etc.). Loss of movement and other factors were involved as well. Retrofitting wrist leashes to spreader bar leashes isn't that hard to do, something to think about.

Having some fun now

A professional rider (of horses) and her friend the biker on the right. All types at this get together.

Everybody up ...

Well ok, if you say so

Pete Cabrinha has left the building! Well, sort of.

Well, better hit the road too. Thanks guys for putting on a fun do. Regards to the organizers including ...
