Default Paddling Into An Orca-Seal Dinner Party

A couple was paddling in the NW, saw a pod of orcas in the distance and apparently tried to converge on the pod. The pod was hunting seals. Good thing they didn't confuse the SUP person for a seal on a float. Seal rookeries are usually near shore or rock outcrops. It would be a good idea to not get too close with signs of feeding time.

Pods of orca can coordinate attacks in an effort to send seals into the water off ice floes at meal time.
The pod sets up to generate a wave to wash the seal into the water.

More about this hunting technique at

A case of a paddler in New Zealand being checked out by an orca and his board given the taste test. From the video, it looks like the board failed the test. Anyone for "long seal?"

Natural creatures acting in natural ways. It is best to try to not get in the way of such things by accident.
