Default 24 hr notice

Hi all,

I have been checking 7 different forecasts now for the past 24 hrs and 5 out of 7 forecasts are predicting it to be straight North until "sometime" in the afternoon, that will give us offshore conditions in FLL. If anyone has an equipment or any other kind of failure they will be drifting offshore. Yes we could start the race a little later but with that much North the distance traveled will be much more than 60 miles and therefore take longer risking the lack of daylight hrs. Also if it does not change in time getting into the beach in FLL with offshore winds is extremely difficult to say the least.

Now, Monday, I know some have to work even though it is a little holiday, 7 out of 7 forecasts are saying very strong winds with a good direction and therefore is seeming to be the better day. They are calling for 30+ for winds and 12+' seas, this will be no joke or a "ride in the park" and should be taken very seriously. Last year there was a pre race in similar conditions where many of the local pro's had a hard time and equipment failures. Getting munched by a 12' wave is not a pleasant experience and very dangerous, inlets will be merciless! Shore break could kill you! This is not a race just to give it a go, your equipment will have to be perfectly tuned and checked. Your skill level and clear mind will have to be 100% or you maybe leaving the beach in an ambulance. DO NOT think by backing out your being a quitter or there is any shame in doing so. BE SMART.

Monday will be the day, unless something miraculously changes in the next few hrs. There will be a riders meeting at 8 am sharp with a start time of 9 am (not 9.15). Below is a list of confirmed riders please check it and if you can not make it or want to pull out please let me know as I have to get the final list to the checkpoint in Delray. Please note riders #'s have changed and on the day of the race you will be known and identified by your # not your name. Will be sending more e-mails today about starting procedures, swim areas, rules etc.

Good call on today's weather Neil! It is still side offshore from the NNW in Delray and points south and it is almost 2 pm. Not readily rideable at least near shore. Hope things come together tomorrow. It is looking favorable by the forecast currently but with BIG seas and POWERFUL winds as you say. Sounds like last year's prerace Part II. More about that at: http://fksa.org/forumdisplay.php?f=97

Just spoke to Neil, he said tomorrow morning, Monday, is definitely a GO for the race. He plans to start the race with the kiters leaving the beach AT 9 am without delay so be early. Captains meeting at 8 am.

Check his two posts from yesterday including this one for important precautions, things to think about and other information.

Default Patience Pays

I'm glad neill waited. Tomorrow looks to be great.

When you pass the first pier in Jupiter, make sure to smile. Robert Sullivan of ProShot Images will be catching shots of everyone in action.

To see your shot after the race, give us a day or two, and then go to www.skybanditz.com

Default Ride back to Jupiter after Race

Is there any organized shuttle back up to Jupiter post race?

If not, does anyone have a spare seat? I am leaving my car in Jupiter and have to head North from there after the race.

Lemme know. thanks.

No, I don't think there is a shuttle per se this time. I would ask around tomorrow morning to hookup with a ride. I am still trying to figure out what I am doing myself as I need to hit the office afterward for a meeting?!

Just wondering if any one has some good pics of the event? My Dad told me my lil' Bro won. But the 3 pics he had were not the best detail.

I'm not really into water sports or anything, but I'm sure my Brother will drag me out eventually. Until then I just signed on here hoping for pics and such of the event, and to try and understand this sport that he's into. (I'm more into wheeled sports)

Thanks in advance
