Default Moving To St. Pete...! Help!

Hello,

My name is Ryan. My wife and I are looking to move St. Pete in January. I have family in Venice, Fl., but have never been to St. Pete.

We are looking for a house or condo (under $400k).

What are the good/bad areas of St. Pete?

Any pros/cons with living on the East/West coast? (preferences?)

Anyways... I guess I am just looking for some advice here. If you have any... please let me know.

I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you on the water soon. Have a good one,

Ryan

One are to take a peek at is the different condos in the Tierra Verde area.
That area is only ten minutes from the interstate (max), 5 minutes from Ft. DeSoto, and ten minutes from St. Pete beach/Don CeSar area. In terms of a kiting location as well as safe and nice, that seems good. I have zero idea about the schools, etc, just the narrow minded kiting view.

I have noticed lots of them up for sale for several months. Prices in that area should vary quite a bit, from the 300's on up to the millions, depending. It's a nice area.

If you are looking from brick roads, houses that have charm, character and historic value try looking just north of down town st. pete.

Google "Old North East" St. Pete. Also downtown St.pete are is a very nice place, plenty of parks and what not.

South East St.Pete isn't quite as nice.

The waves on the West coast aren't as good as the East coast of Florida, but we've got a place to go for any wind direction around here and miles of flat water spots.

Good luck! Maybe we'll see you soon.

400k will get you a nice place in this area..
def check old north east.

also check old south east.. the area is really coming up..

anything on the downtown side will be nice and a quick drive in the area will show you that there are a number of nice communities.

work is being down to beautify the southern side of st. pete. its an area that is pretty poverty stricken and tends to make news about crime and other problems that follow those type of living conditions..

the Tiera Verde area is very nice .. but expect to pay a lot more per sq ft due to the fact that its known as a ritzy place..

the kenwood area has tons of character.. its full of houses built in the 20s and 30s and most residents have done considerable work in restoration.

i live in central st. pete. just a bit north of Central ave and just a bit west of kenwood. 1924 bungalow i bought 5 years ago.. dead smack in the middle of the st. pete pennisula.. 5 miles from downtown... 5 miles from the beach. i can be at the skyway bridge or lassing park (epic places to ride on NE winds) in about 10 minutes..
i can be on the beach on the gulf and riding in about 20.

Where exactly is this southside area? I might be riding my bike through it at night and not even know.
I might be associating with these types of problems, and not even know. Scary stuff. Crap, now I am rethinking going out to Wal-mart in a few.

Pinellas Point is a great neighborhood!
Little crime, not much traffic, and very close to riding spots.
I've seen houses drop back to "normal" around here lately. 3 bedroom/2 bath for around $200K
