Unhappy Why is it collapsing? 5-line kite..

Hi, I am new here but I have a quick question. I know today was not the ideal day to go flying but I was tempted to go and try my new 5 line kite (RRD Type Wave 2, 12M). I am uploading a video to youtube of me just trying to get it up and I was able to self launch using the fifth line (I know the wind was not blowing the right direction but..really wanted to try it). In mid air it collapses. Any reason why..I am scared to over inflate both leading edge/struts cause of past experience of blowout in midair hence the hesistation.

It's the like the kite would drop out of the sky (most likley due to wind) or sometimes just the wind tips would just collapse as if not enough air. I have a line that runs across from the left to right tip so that in waves the lines don't cut the kite and I wonder if I am pulling the fifth line too hard to power up but causing it to collapse.

Attaching videos soon.

Thanks

I hope you youtube is not prohibited here

Not much wind, first off. But, imo.. that is a classic case of needing to sheet out a little. When kites "taco bell" like that, you have too much rear line pressure.
Push the bar away from you as it begins to do that. 3 more knots and you wouldn't have even noticed.
You should really keep the kite moving as much as possible to (left to right) in that low stuff.
I actually like tuning my kites in that crap wind, cuz then you know exactly where the point is where the kite is flying less efficiently (when it starts going backwards in light wind, it has drag in a little more wind).

Hey Scott thanks for the reply, yeah I was not sure if it was underfilled and it was really concerning because I really felt it was pumped up well. I was out at treasure island today and well not much wind. New kite so like you said great time to tune it and learn about it without my dragging on my face.

Thanks for your advice

Sure. Light wind like that is a joke. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
But, you really can (imo) learn a ton about your kite and how they fly in those really marginal winds. I like messin' around in the light stuff (just not around anyone....right Bob?)

3 more knots and you would have been fine, regardless of how it was tuned (within reason). That's a VERY nice kite, btw.
Some say it's one of the best kites ever made.
Inferno just got one, or a Type 8, can't remember. Both are cool c-kites with a ton of depower possible.

Thanks for the feedback, the kite turns extremely fast when the wind is good and I have taken it out on waves and it's short of amazing, b/c of the line that goes from left to right tip (across kite) it prevents lines from wrapping up on the kite and tearing it. It's a 12M, with a 5-Line RRD puley bar. Let me know if you want to check it out, I am in town for the week.
