Just wondering what wind directions you guys prefer when kiting at the dunedin causeway?

Stay on the west side of the causway and ONLY launch on the north westside of the sailing and kayak rental stand. The 5-0 will ticket you for trying to launch on the southwest side of that stand.

and one more friendly reminder from your neighborhood kite ambassador that you must ride outside the swim zone.

Some bouys state "idle speed" or "no wake zone" which does not mean you can't kite inside them, IMO, but these bouys at the causway should be interpreted in a way that you should not ride inside them.

There is no place to safely ride at Dunedin on a north wind or north east. If its north go up to sunset beach. Do not ride on the north side of the causeway. The north side of the Dunedin causeway is a death wish!!!

North west is possible out at Honeymoon Island go to the far east beach house walk over the walkway and make a left go east of the vollyball net and launch. There can be Very strong currents here that must be taken into account. You can also go out to the west beach and launch. Must make note that these beaches fill up with beach goers unless it is balls cold and blowing a ton. Not a good place to ride other than winter.

The Dunedin causeway is very good on a South East South and South west. We have been told by the Sheriff that we are restricted to launching west of the rental house, and can not ride inside the bouys. If the wind has too much west in it this location is very sketchy due to the condos west of the launch.

None of these launches should be considered unless you have complete control of your rig and consider yourself an advacned rider. You can launch on an empty beach here, go out and ride for an hour, and comeback to find your kitebag covered up with cars, people and their beach chairs coolers etc and have no place to land your kite. We use anchors with floats on them out in the flats to launch and land our kites to avoid this problem.

Key word in this is advice is DEAD.

If you are suggesting to ride on the north side of the causway, you are recommending that someone lauch a kite with in 10 to 30 yards at best DEAD upwind of high voltage lines, a steel guardrail, and a very busy roadway. If you are on the southside of the causeway it is DEAD off shore.

Please don't ride the north side of Dunedin Causeway.
