Not a bad Sunday (Strange Wind)
Nice afternoon at Cypress. Started out around 11:30 and then just died after about an hour of riding. At 2:30 it picked up to about 17mph for about and 2 1/2 hours than shut off for about 30 more minutes or so. Came up again to about 15 to 22 with a storm which got a little crazy for about 30 minutes than shut off again. I think it came up one more time after that but that was enough for me. All in all, better than the Bucs game thats for sure.

North Clearwater Beach was great from 10:30 till 4:30 rode the 12m all day. Nice little waves to boot. Very sore this morning. I guess it has been a long time since a session like that. Might happen again Tuesday.

Covered miles and miles. Took the boat out to the north end of Caladisi and launched from the ankle deep water on the inside, then rode up and down the coast all around Hurricane pass etc. Too many people on the beach for me to set up on the beach. I had my son with me and he's relativley new at kiting so it's nice to not worry about him getting into people. He's sore today also, he spent 5 hours riding with us and he is finding out about blisters on the hands.

With this westerly coming through for tomorrow, where is a good place to go close to Clearwater Beach with flat water?
Thanks |

If you are good to go with a straight onshore wind you can park any where at the northend of clearwater beach (rock aways / frenchy's) and pack your gear hike north from the tourist beach and have a blast. Might have to walk 500 yards north. No one up there. Just don't go south at all. If you are not 100% on self launch, self landing, and getting through surf break up wind with some current don't do it, cause there is no one there to help you. Sunset beach is the best bet if you want friends around you.

I might head out there as well tomorrow if it looks decent. Hopefully somebody in the area will send a text to the group if it looks good....

Sent text this a.m.
Still breezy at St. Pete Beach. 2 kiters still out. Man... I skipped Sunday. The wind died around noon so I went to Derby Lane all day til 1am. Interestingly, I met a kiter from Sarasota at the 5/10 table. He was funny as hell and we hit it off instantly (that's not common at a poker table). It wasn't til he was there for 3 hours that I found out he was a kiter. That just made for even more funny stories while playing. I have seen Reno and a couple other kiters over there on occasion as well. |
