Huge apology to the sunset crew
Man did I F up today. Made a very stupid decision today that almost resulted in a very bad accident. I never ride up close to shore but for some reason today I did. Boy do I regret it. I take my position to heart and try to set a great example but today was a low point. Luckily nothing happened but it could have been ugly. Must practice what I preach and a hard lesson that anything can go wrong at anytime. Even a simple transition you've done 1000 times could change someone's life for the worse. A reminder that one can never get to comfortable out there. A reminder to always be aware of your downwind no matter what your level or what your doing. To the Sunset crew I apologize and you will never see me do something stupid like that again. I recognize my mistake and will learn from it. I of all people should know better.

A simple transition went bad. Lost it and looped the kite right over some heads. It was a close call. Bottom line is I didn't consider what was downwind. I got overconfident. Just really glad nothing resulted cuz of it. It was one of those moments when your driving and you have to swerve to miss something. It shakes you up and reminds you to be more alert.

Glad you and the folks onshore came through ok Steve. It is easy to get complacent riding and in nearshore transitions, most of us have been guilty of that at one time or another. There was a case some years back of a very experienced kiter doing just that but taking himself out in only about 12 kts. More at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=541
