Danny,
I think you much more likely to get whacked by a boater or jet ski in the Honeymoon channel than a shark. But yeah, a great place to catch wind especially if the tide is right. |

Biggest shark I have seen in the water I saw on the shallows south of Hurricane Pass off Honeymoon. About a 13' Hammerhead in 5' of clear water over a white sand bottom. I had to turn around to take another look because I could not beleive the size of the thing. Sharks like to eat fish not people. If they liked to eat people you would read about attacts everyday of the summer on our beaches, because they are swimming among the beach goers everyday.

I swim around pier 60, around the jetty on the south end and just about every place in between on clearwater beach everyday. I see sharks dolphins manatees stingrays snook sunken boats hot bikinis and tarpon that weigh more than I do. The fact is you're not on the menu. Like anything else in life, put yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time and you could have an issue. I feel much safer in the water than i do on my bicycle on the way to work every morning

Sharks north of Courtney Campbell
A few years ago, I went along for a ride with a friend in his helicopter. We were cruising just north of the CC on the Pinellas side and saw some big moving shadows. We took the helicopter (a Loach - like the one from Magnum PI) down for a closer look. The shadows were sharks and the largest one was about the length of the chopper. The loach measures about 15 feet in length! We were about 10 feet off the water and didn't even scare it away.
