Right of Way Rules?
I just started kiting in May. But I'm still a little confused over right of way. I've been a sailor all my life, and it seems like the rules are a little different while riding a kite.
I tend to just 'give in' if someone is coming right at me... So... Downwind rider has right of way? Is that the deal? |

Nothing wrong with giving in if you save yourself or others some grief. Still, too many kiters approach our sport like driving a golf cart. Just press the gas and go, seamanship, rules of the road and other normally essential knowledge is optional and not worth bothering with?
Anyway, an article about kiting and Rules of the Road appears at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=587 Realizing that not a lot of kiters know this stuff much less practice it quite yet, I try to signal the direction I am going in when converging or crossing by arching an arm in the direction I am going. It works, most of the time.
