The Kahoona on the Emerald Coast
We've been testing the new Best Kahoona here in Panama City Beach, FL the last few weeks and wanted to post some photos of the kite in detail. Most of the guys here in the shop fly the Nemi or Waroo, so it was a treat to try something new. Enjoy the pics below, more to come later. If you are in the area, come on by the shop and fly the Kahoona.
The bag is the perfect size, very easy to fit the kite, nice drawstring, pocket on the front for your keys, cell phone, ipod, whatever. There's a little port for your headphone cable, if you roll with the tunes going. Back of the bag, very nicely constructed, padded shoulder straps. Bag with the 09 Redline bar attached. No bar or pump pockets on this bag, but some typical straps for holding down a bar or pump. 09 Kahoona and Redline bar, that's not snow on the ground, white sugary sand. 11.5 is what we are testing out today New draw string tightener deal, looks stronger than the old one Getting ready to fly! Here's the kite laid out on the beach, you instantly notice the "Delta" shape of this kite. Pumping her up, no EZ Pump on this, we find most people prefer the standard inflation. They added an extra layer of ripstop to help prevent any wear from the valves on the LE. Smart This kite feels very lightweight compared to alot of others, these kites just glide in the air. Kahoona all pumped up, the 11.5 is the "Big Kahoona" Beefy reinforcements on the ends of all of the struts Foam bumpers over the top of the struts, lightweight but very protective. Pulleys on the front bridles, pretty standard No middle strut on the Kahoona, only 4 struts total, keeps the kites weight down. Bomber seam on the leading edge, diameter is pretty normal. Shot of the 2 piece strut, cool silk screen on the struts Wingtips are pinched, making the Delta shape, great for relaunch-ability Kevlar skids on the LE, this part of the kite gets alot of wear during launch/landing, so this helps alot. Kite is very solid, or bud Rick showing off the Kahoona The Kahoona in the air, no wrinkles in the canopy, very stable The white is our favorite color so far for the Kahoona You can see here the kite starting to roll over and relaunch And liftoff, winds were pretty light here, about 14mph. The membrane valves on the struts keep getting better and better each year. Airtight lock. Here's a shot of the Redline bar, lots of depower, nice components, we'll have a full review coming soon. Redline bar on the beach, the actual red line or safety line is pretty beefy, has worked flawlessly. Same metal insert in the center of the bar as the 09 Best bar, works perfect, no wear or tear. Soft EVA grip, very comfortable design, easy to see red & blue colors. Color coded lines, pretty standard on most bars. Check out our new quick test flight video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YchDGH5Rwwc That's it for now, we've got some video of the kite in action, as well as a full on review, that we'll be posting on our website soon. I'll post a link to it here as soon as it goes online. If you have any specific questions about the Kahoonas drop me an email or pm. |
