24 hr notice
Hi all,
I have been checking 7 different forecasts now for the past 24 hrs and 5 out of 7 forecasts are predicting it to be straight North until "sometime" in the afternoon, that will give us offshore conditions in FLL. If anyone has an equipment or any other kind of failure they will be drifting offshore. Yes we could start the race a little later but with that much North the distance traveled will be much more than 60 miles and therefore take longer risking the lack of daylight hrs. Also if it does not change in time getting into the beach in FLL with offshore winds is extremely difficult to say the least. Now, Monday, I know some have to work even though it is a little holiday, 7 out of 7 forecasts are saying very strong winds with a good direction and therefore is seeming to be the better day. They are calling for 30+ for winds and 12+' seas, this will be no joke or a "ride in the park" and should be taken very seriously. Last year there was a pre race in similar conditions where many of the local pro's had a hard time and equipment failures. Getting munched by a 12' wave is not a pleasant experience and very dangerous, inlets will be merciless! Shore break could kill you! This is not a race just to give it a go, your equipment will have to be perfectly tuned and checked. Your skill level and clear mind will have to be 100% or you maybe leaving the beach in an ambulance. DO NOT think by backing out your being a quitter or there is any shame in doing so. BE SMART. Monday will be the day, unless something miraculously changes in the next few hrs. There will be a riders meeting at 8 am sharp with a start time of 9 am (not 9.15). Below is a list of confirmed riders please check it and if you can not make it or want to pull out please let me know as I have to get the final list to the checkpoint in Delray. Please note riders #'s have changed and on the day of the race you will be known and identified by your # not your name. Will be sending more e-mails today about starting procedures, swim areas, rules etc. 1. Stacy Fonas 2. Matt Sexton 3. Hamish McDonald 4. Graham Goodwin 5. Juan Garces 6. Chris Summers 7.
