Harbour Island-January 2009
A buddy of mine decided to get married in Harbour Island (well, his financee decided to get married there). Anyway, I want to make sure it is worth dragging gear from Oregon to the Bahamas. Is there wind in Harbour Island in January (20-26th ish)? Where can I find kite info on this place? Wind sensors?
Thanks! |

You can find forecast info at: http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/78077.html There are no nearby realtime wind sensors that I could find. Alex Shogrun of Best Kiteboarding bought the Dunmore Beach Hotel in Harbour Island back in 2004 and opened the area up to kiting. He should have some videos in his archive of the area over on his website. I think AJ out of Nassau has been stopping there during his kite camp as well. He could probably fill you in nicely on the layout. There is a wide sand beach on the east side of the island for N to E to S winds. There are shallows to launch in on the west side from N to W to S winds. So you should be covered. You can tour the island via sat. images at: http://www.harbourislandguide.com/gm...sland-gmap.htm Here's a suggestion, checkout the photo gallery at: http://www.harbourislandguide.com/photos-1.htm and ask yourself one more time if you think it is worth bringing kite gear or not? Have a good trip!

forecasting for harbor island
this is the forecast web site that I use for spanish wells and harbor island.
scroll down and look on the right hind side to see the wind and tides. http://magicseaweed.com/Egg-Island-Surf-Report/474/ the wind is often on shore there and if its up there is a nice shore brake..decent beach to launch on..if it's windy there will not be to many people on the beach. no laws are in place for kiteboarding there (just common scene) if you need any more info give me a hail. aj cell 242 422 0756 info@cross-shore.com http://www.cross-shore.com |
