Women's Kiteboarding Odyssey - Kingdom of Tonga!
This just in from Laurel Eastman:
*May 1 2007* CINDY MOSEY ISLAND ODYSSEY HEADS TO KINGDOM OF TONGA The tropical island of Va’vau in the Kingdom of Tonga is confirmed as the gathering point for women kiteboarders seeking the adventure of a lifetime at the Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey. Although few thought the first-ever odyssey held in remote Kadavu, Fiji, could be surpassed, organiser Cindy Mosey (NZ) has searched the Pacific Ocean to create a whole new experience for women kiteboarders and decided upon a destination alive with the song of whales. “Tonga is such a special place to me. Having sailed its islands and kiteboarded there extensively over the past few years, I know it’s going to be an absolutely awesome event and I’m so excited about seeing everyone in beautiful Va’vau,” said Mosey. The invitation is now open to amateur women kiteboarders from around the world to weave their own stories of adventure with a group of positive and dynamic women in an exciting new destination. Registrations are open and more information is available at www.cindymoseyislandodyssey.com <http://www.cindymoseyislandodyssey.com>. Joining the amateur kiteboarders will be 12 professional riders, on hand to deliver encouraging coaching advice that will raise the ability of every one choosing to take part. Participants will fly Tonga’s domestic carrier Peau Vavau and be accommodated aboard comfortable catamarans anchored in calm waters off Mounu Resort on Va’vau. The Va’vau group is a beautiful cluster of waterways and pristine, sparsely inhabited islets to the North of Tongatapu, Tonga’s main island. The digs Temperatures average 24C during the day and 20C at night. Water temperature is expected to be 26C. This just in from Ali Smith ... For Immediate Release US$20,000 FOR CINDY MOSEY ISLAND ODYSSEY - VAVA’U 26 June 2007 Women’s kitesurfing has been catapulted to a whole new level with the announcement this week by Balance Vector of a US$20,000 prize purse for competitors at the Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey Vava’u. The whopping prize pool will ensure kitesurfing action at an extreme level from the professional women riders attending the CMIO Vava’u in October and it fulfils another life goal for event founder Cindy Mosey in raising the profile of the world’s best women kitesurfers. “This is truly the most prize money women have ever been given in an event,” said three-times world kitesurfing champion Cindy Mosey. “What is so great about it is that the women coming to Vava’u have all worked really hard to get to where they are and they totally deserve to be riding for such an incredible prize pool.” The prize money for the Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey Vava’u was provided by Balance Vector, which has helped realise the dreams of women kitesurfers from around the world with its sponsorship of the Odyssey in Fiji last year and now Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga. Pro riders will fight for the prize via three divisions - freestyle, course racing and boardercross – with competitors judging the freestyle division. Riders will gain points from each division during the week with points split equally between each division. “This is an excellent way to ensure the prize money will go to the best overall riders.” Although the action will be spectacular for those enjoying the week-long odyssey at Mounu Island Resort in Vava’u, Mosey said the competitions would be kept “short and sweet” to reflect the main focus of the Odyssey as a positive learning environment for amateur kitesurfers. “The Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey Vava’u is really all about the social riders, and we want more women to know this event is fun and relaxing as well as an amazing opportunity to take your riding to the next level.” Go to www.cindymoseyislandodyssey.com for more or contact Cindy at: 490B Wakapuaka Road, RD1, Nelson, New Zealand.
