Ometepe Island
For guaranteed wind in the summer you can count on Ometepe Island in Nicaragua, the same wind that forms the surf on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua
funnels through the 4000 foot Volcanoes on Ometepe Island first, in summer it blows 15 to 25 mph, in winter the wind is 30 to 50 but getting there might be a problem, I couldn't get across last January because the ferries where shut down. We took a ferry to Ometepe from San Jorge which is about two hours south of Managua on the Western shoreline of the lake. From San Jorge west it's a short drive across the isthmus to world class surfing on the Pacific Ocean. .

Thanks JP, I had never heard of the place. Sounds like Arenal in some respects being an inland lake with honking strong wind! What a remarkable place,
"in summer it blows 15 to 25 mph, in winter the wind is 30 to 50" It sounds like the ferry traffic gives it up for the strong wind in winter. What do the locals do other than stay put? Thanks for letting us know about this place, a new high wind destination and in freshwater. http://www.ometepenicaragua.com http://www.hospedajesoma.com/en/ometepe.html https://quintessentialruminations.wo...g-in-our-diet/ I see they have a Wind Guru report for the island: http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=46800 and a local kite school, http://kiteboardingnicaragua.com .
