FloraBama Kiteboarding
I am curious about Kiting near Alabama. Dauphin Island, Mobile Bay, Alabama Point, Perdido, Navarre beach etc. I grew up in Alabama and now live in the Gorge. I go back every year to visit my mother and I would have a lot more fun if I knew all of the local spots.
Also what wind am I looking for and what do you guys use to check. I've noticed that ikitesurf has Dauphin Island then skips to Navarre. Is there any Alabama Kiteboading Association? I guess since Florida stole all of our coastline we may not get a Kiteboarding Association :O) Andy |

You're in Luck
The best spot i've found for a north wind is near Gulf Shores AL. 30 miles of unobstructed fetch from Mobile Bay. This sweet spot will have 5+mph more wind than Pensacola in north wind. Locate Fort Morgan, AL on the map. About 2 miles east along the N shoreline there is a sandy beach that some of my friends are using. Id be happy to meet you for some kiting. You can ferry across from Dauphin, AL. I kite mostly in Pensacola in the summer. Bob www.gckites.com www.gulfcoastkiteboarders.com

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I used to skip school and go to Bon Sequor National Wildlife Area on Fort Morgan Road. I was wondering what wind would work there. North wind wouldn't be offshore there? It will be a while until I'm back in the area riding but good to know that when I go visit family there is a place to ride.
