Anyone loose a yellow 9m slingshot at SPB?? While doing a downwinder with Ron and heading past bongos I found it 200yards out wrapped around a crap trap float. The float and bar were completely submerged and I could not see them. Was going to cut it loose and bring it in, but I was already overpowered on my 15M and ultimately decided it would be better to have someone with a boat recover it... just in case a rider may have gotten tangled and pulled under and drowned.
Came in and Ron and I used a tourists cellphone to call water rescue at Eckerd College and sent them out there to retrieve it. We told them that worse case someone could still be attached to it. Hopefully they retrieved only a kite. Anyone know the rest of the story? |

I hope this turns out as just a run away kite.
Good call on the Eckerd College rescue Tom. They are always free (when within a certain distance from shore ) and are ready to go most of the time. BTW, they come out to give people tows back in ALOT (boaters). |

Hope so, but with noone around looking for it, it was suspicous. Also, it was 200yards off shore, in side on winds. Again, strange unless someone lost it way out and swam in and left it.

All is good. Rider inverted kite, got in trouble and tied lines around buoy so they could safely swim in. Thanks for the heads up call Tom!!!
