a huge amount depends on the current..

if you are working with a strong current and trying to body drag against it you will have a really tough time.. if not complete failure..

in those cases its best to drag to shore, keep an eye on your board, walk up the beach far upwind of your board and drag back out.

I've had to do this a number of times when riding the gulf and getting pulled far downwind where i know it would take lots of time to drag to the board.

but in normal conditions you should be able to flatten out your body, point your free arm out and use it as leverage to crank upwind in a bodydrag.. definitely spend some times practicing this...
