I would get a trainer if you can find one on ebay or somewere cheep. After taking lessons, both me and the wife, were ahead of other people just becuase we knew how to fly the kite. I would not spend alot for one though.
Also later on your friends well want you to show them how to kite, give them the trainer instead of letting them thrash your gear.
